Taxis

by Klod5

You can order a taxi by calling 058 or 221-1200. Taxis waiting in the street are considerably more expensive than those hailed. Generally, it is easier and cheaper to hail a private car in the street, as owners often act as taxi drivers. It is not advisable to get in a private car with more than one person already in it. Set the price before getting in. Rides are usually equivalent to about $2 in the city centre, and up to $5 to Kiev's suburbs. To get from Boryspil airport to Kiev by taxi you are expected to pay approximately $20.

Metro

by Klod5

Kiev's metro is famous for its cleanliness, safety and beautifully-decorated interior. It is also very cheap. A single-use token allows a transfer for one line to another, or you can buy a monthly pass. Both are available at any metro station. The metro scheme is not complicated: it consists of three lines which connect the centre with all districts of the city.

Ukraine trains are comfortable and very cheap for us tourist.U can buy tickets at the stations.Train etiquette: take some food and drinks with u when traveling by train so u can share with others.Thats what is usually done:-)When someone of the pposite sex wants to get ready to sleep u should leave the compartment and try to make a compromis with the other passengers about using the heating, radio or other.Bring ur own toiletpaper, some moisted towelettesand some desinfection soap.I went several times by train, the last time february 2002 i went with my ukrainian aunt to Kiev.It tooks us 12 hours to get there and 12 hrs. back again! A long time.. so we had a sleepingtrain. Very comfortable. U can buy sheets for the night doesnt cost much just 1-2 euroIf u dont speak Ukrainian or Russian take a traveldictionairy.People are very friendly and we shared food with the other passenger! In...

Train. That is all that should be said. It may not be what some would call first class, but it is very scenic and the trip is best with 2-3 companions. If you must fly into Krym you will have to take transit to where ever you stay near the Sea. Simfiropol' is not on the sea. So take a van (Marshrutka) or Troleibus to the town of your choice.Van or Troleibus

The cable car rides from the Boulevard down to the Lanzheron Beach. It is fun and costs less than 1 hryvna. The steep hill parts the Frantsuzsky Boulevard from 3 beaches beneath. Paths and stairs lead downhill to the Sea through a green zone closed to vehicle traffic. It is a favorite sight for picnics.

by aliante1981

The easiest option is to go from Russia - that's the place where most of Ukraine's international flights and trains are coming from. Some major airlines operate direct flights to Kiev, but if you pass through Moscow your travel schedule will be much more flexible, as flights from major foreign cities are less frequent than those to Moscow.

Plane.

by ryuguong

If you want to get to Crimea there are flights from Kyiv (Zhulyani) airport (IEV), which is different from the international airport Boryspil (KBP). The tickets can be bought from airports and tickets offices in various places. The planes are not usually crowded, so it can be possible to buy tickets couple hours before the flights, but of course being absolutely sure make reservation in advance. Tickets for internal flight can be bought abroad, but with a high mark-up. The service is good in the planes and many times arrive a bit earlier (like buses) quoted in the timetable. A return ticket from Kyiv to Simferopol (Crimea) is approx. UAH 800, which equals EUR 130.

The system of public transport...

by Kostyantyn

The system of public transport in Ukraine includes underground, buses, trolley-buses, trams. The fastest means of transport in big cities is metro. Trains run from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. Service is frequent, with trains at intervals of 1,5 to 2,5 minutes. The travel costs the same amount of money for all distances. Passengers should buy a plastic token in the vestibule before the turnstiles, deposit the token in a turnstile, and pass through when the light turns green. To travel by trolley-bus, bus or tram you should buy a ticket, either at the stop or from the driver and punch it by a punch on the wall. If you want to travel by taxi, you are advised to take only taxis with company's name and checker-board. But you should discuss first the price with the driver and be ready to the fact that this service can be quite expensive. Using public transport is sometime problematic, if you are...
