by Kostyantyn

There are two main ways to come to Ukraine: by air or by railway. The largest international airport is in Kyiv (this is airport Boryspil) though international flights arrive also to such cities as Lviv, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, etc. All international fast trains either come or pass Kyiv Terminal.

While travelling over Ukraine, you can use plane, railway or ship. Domestic flights connect Kyiv with regional centres. The average time of travelling is 1,5 up to 2 hours. You can also travel by train: Kyiv is linked with all main Ukrainian cities and towns. Most of trains start in the evening and arrive next day in the morning or about noon. Comfortable and fast overnight trains serve such destination as Lviv, Odesa, Kharkiv, Donetsk. In summer time it is good choice to travel to Odesa , Yalta, Mykolayiv, Kherson by comfortable cruisers, combining rest, entertainment and sightseeing.

by Juanmatias

It is very easy to move in Kiev. I usually moved by metro (it stops to work after midnight if my memoirs are exact) and by private taxi. Cost of taxi can be really cheaper (according with european ones) but I recommend to contract price before to go in (much better is to have an ukrainian friend and let him/her talk, so he will believe that you are ukrainian too). Usually at night taxis are more expensive. But never pay more than 30 Grivnas!!!

Car may be fast and flexible, but the nicest and most interesting way of getting around is definitely to take the train. Most trains leave at night and arrive in the morning. It is not so fast, but rather cheap (and you save a hotel night). I would recommend the cabins and not the open wagons (these can be exposed to theft during the nighttime when evereybody is sleeping). In the cabins, men and women are put togheter ramdomly. But don't worrry. They are used to this here. Ukrainians always bring their own food and drinks (definitely with alcohol) and they all share with each other. If you speak Russian or Ukrainian you sure will meet some interesting people, and if you are lucky, you'll find someone who speks English.

Well - I go by car. Very convenient and flexible. The driving here is perhaps a little 'tough', and the roads are not always in the best shapes, but it is otherwise not a big problem. Beware of the high speed some Ukrainian drivers will do, especially on the highways. You can rent cars and drive yourself (Avis, Herz), but I would recommend to rent a car with a driver if you don't know your way around. Street signs are in Ukrainian (if you can find them). Renting a car with driver is not expensive, and I would recommend this to get around fast and easy.

Daily flights from many European cities. Remember that you need to arrange your visa prior to arrival. Not difficult to get, but you do need to apply at an embassy, normally with an invitation or a hotel booking arranged in advance.Air is the quickest, but rail is the most interesting. A wide railnetwok with overnight trains to almost all major cities. In the cities, taxis are cheap and easy. Lots of regular taxis, but in reality you can flag down any car you see. It seems most people enjoy to earn a little extra this way, and it is perfectly acceptable.

It's easy to travel to Kiev...

by Serhiy

It's easy to travel to Kiev (or Kyiv), Odessa, Dnipropetrovsk from many European cities. The best is to travel to BORYSPIL Airport of Kiev. From there you can take a taxi for 20-30 USD maximum to the city centre. Do not pay more! Also you can go by public bus for 5-7 USD or by shuttle bus that would cost 10-15 USD. At airport exit you will be met by private taxi drivers that will annoyingly offer you their serivces. Just don't pay attention to them. It's easy getting around in Kyiv (Kiev). Public transport works ok and is very cheap - $0.1 per ride no matter where. Shuttle buses cost $0.2 per ride. Kyiv Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk have metro. Taxi costs $0.2 per kilometer. Taxi order costs around $1. If you lift your hand on the street in any Ukrainian city a simple private car can stop and take you where you want cheaper than municipal taxi. For Kyiv city good taxi services can be ordered...

The best way to get to...

by bahia

The best way to get to Transcarpathia if you are coming from Europe it's through Hungary by train (Zahony-Csap)or by car through Beregsurany-Asztely, Tiszabecs-Tiszaujlak. Or by bus from Budapest to Uzhorod. And there is an opportunity to go by air. (Mukacsevo or Uzhorod)It is not easy to get around in Transcarpathia. The best way to go by car. But the roads is in very bad shape. The public transport isn't the best. Buses is mostly going but not so often. The same about the trains. It was a train going from Uzhorod(Ungvar) to Mukacheve(Munkacs) and back and also from Uzhorod (Ungvar) to Chop(Csap) and to Koroleve. It may still going now.

We got to Ukraine (Kiev) by plane from Tallinn in 2 hours. And then we spent about 26 hours(!) in train to Simferopol (capital of Crimea). So we were lucky, because it is big problem to buy ticket to Crimea in this season. Our Ukrainian friend said that it was good train because there were no cockroaches... So try to imagine carriage in hot day without air-conditioning and with windows that do not open.Note: Train tickets are sold only with passport.
