This is the Orthodox Church in the epicenter of LUTSK...Svetlana and I spent hours at mass here. It was as brightly ornate as Lutsk was blandly grey. She shared with me a detailed chronology of her family history and their Orthodox Christian religious practices in the face of the anti-religious climate in the Former Soviet Union for the prior 70 years.
My final night in Lutsk we went to a nice restaraunt on the outskirts of town right on the river and had a multi course dinner repleat with several native Ukraine dishes and a band playing in the huge dining room.
Years later Svetlana contacted me(via VT...yay VT!).
We had exchanged a few letters back then but.....
exchanging emails via VT was very pleasant(for me anyway). Well she had gotten married, had a child, divorced and remembered me. It is trully a small world.
