Wine cellar in Massandra
4 more images

Favorite thing: Visiting the settlement of Massandra located 3 km to the east of Yalta along the Yalta-Simferopol highway.
This small town is famous for its winery established in 1936.
Lots of well-known brands of Massandra wine were awarded lots of medals for their quality, among them Red Stone brand that received two first-prize awards.
You can have a look at the cellar and the wine museum and taste some wine brands.

Fondest memory: Attending the wine tasting ceremony in Massandra you can make sure that the Crimean wine-growers and wine-makers create many fine brands of wine whose bouquet is in no way inferior to that of the best wines of France, Spain, Italy and other countries famed for their wines.

Yalta in the evening
4 more images

Favorite thing: Lenin's quay is located between mouths of the rivers Derekojka-river (it means Fast-river) in the East and Wuchang-Su (Waterfall-river) in the West. From the auto station Moscowskaya and Kievskaya streets conduct along the Derekojka-river to Lenin's square from which the quay begins and where is the Main Post office, McDonalds. Massadra beach with Massandra Park above it begins behind the Marina-port.

There are three good reference points on Lenin's quay: the restaurant-ship "Argo", the restaurant-ship "Espanola" and the hotel "Oreanda". Opposite to the hotel there is a souvenir small town. The city beach and Seaside Park begins behind the hotel.
There is a Ware market and a square in the area of crossing Moscowskaya and Karl Marx streets. Fixed-route taxis depart to resort settlements of the Big Yalta from there.

Yalta Panorama
4 more images

Favorite thing: Yalta remained a fishing small village because of absence of a convenient bay till the end of the XVIII century. N.S.Mordvinov who was the chief of the Black Sea admiralty and M.S.Vorontsov who was the general-governor of Novorossiysk territory (which structure included also the Crimea) got huge manors in the area of Yalta after connection the Crimea to Russia.

1838 - Yalta received the status of the city and became the center of new Yalta district. Just before roads to Sevastopol and Simferopol were laid through the city.
The development of Yalta began after known doctors Botkin and Dmitriev had scientifically proved curative properties of the Crimean climate. It drew attention of imperial persons to the Crimea. Then magnificent palaces, country houses and private residences began to be erected.

After the Civil war of 1917-20 palaces and summer residences were nationalized and transformed into sanatoria for workers and peasants. The city suffered strongly during the WWII.
Today Yalta is a fashionable and expensive resort.

Aincient Pont - Black Sea
4 more images

Favorite thing: There is the following legend about an origin of the name of the city: "Greeks being tired to plough waters of the Akeinsky Pontus (the Inhospitable sea) and having already lost any hope to see any ground the suddenly saw a green coast. "Yalos!"(Coast) - cried one of them. Greeks gave such a name to a new settlement.

Yalta was mentioned by Arabian geographer Al-Idrisi in XII century for the first time in written sources and it has a name "Jalita".

The Black Sea in Yalta
4 more images

Favorite thing: The main sight of Yalta for us always was in past and there will be in future - the Black sea. This sea was the unique accessible warm sea in days of the USSR. Therefore it attracted us with an opportunity to swim and sunbathe in summer months and September. The rest time of the year this sea is inaccessible to swim (though daredevils are swimming even in April and May when water temperature is 14-16C!).

The sea is perfect in itself. You can admire the sea at any time. This year I have appeared at the Black sea with the digital camera for the first time. I could not stop and photographed tens and tens times … These pics I'll put on all my Crimea pages.

The Crimean Mountains in Yalta
4 more images

Favorite thing: The city of Yalta occupies the extensive mountain amphitheater turned to the sea between capes Ah-Todor in the West and Montedor in the East. From northwest and north Yalta is shaped with the high 1400-meter mountain barrier saving it from cold winds.

Yalta - the most popular resort of Ukraine known all over the world. The center of the resort zone has stretched more than on 70 km along the Black Sea - from Gurzuf up to Foros.

The main ridge of the Crimean Mountains is divided by valleys into a number of separate valleys, which surface is almost flat. Strong winds do not allow growing normally to trees, but the abundance of moisture and the sun are favorable for mountain meadows. Ah-Petri Jayla - one of the most spacious and beautiful, and the most mastered in tourism.

promenade

Favorite thing: It's very pleasant to walk along the promenade in Yalta. There are benches and stone walls to have a seat on, eat ice cream and enjoy. People watching is obviously an important part in all this. In late afternoon/evening restaurants try to attract customers. There is actually a good low price stolovaya (self-serve restaurant) among all the fancy restaurants.

My mom and my sister

Favorite thing: I guess just walking along the beach will reinvigorate you in many ways. In the summer its packed with tourists and in the winter in empty with some locals strolling along. The setting is beautiful with the Black sea on one side and the mountain range on the other.
