When crossing the border between Ukraine and EU countries, it is soooo difficult! I crossed the border between Ukraine and Slovakia and it took us 5 hours to get into Slovakia! Long ques are there (if you are with the car) since border police are checking each and every car for drugs / alcohol / cigarettes since some people go to the ukraine to smuggle goods into Slovakia.
Unique Suggestions: If you need to cross the border with your car, then make sure you plan your trip early and you have all documents which are needed (car handbook, passports, visas)...
make sure you have some food with you and use the toilet before attempting to cross the border because really it took us 5 hours!
Fun Alternatives: An alternative is to cross the border on foot and take a bus from the border to another city in Slovakia!

the minimum you have to pay for a taxi in uzhgorod is 5 ghrivna. crossing the city by taxi is about 7 ghrivna. if they hear that you are speaking english or german they try to get more money.
Fun Alternatives: explain them that NORMALY it costs not more then 6 ghrivna. mostly they agree.
