In a land where there were not a lot of methods of cooking, in the past peat was the most common fuel source. People would go out and cut the peat with a special shaped shovel, then stack the cut peat into small heaps to dry out. Then the dry peat would be taken and stacked into a large pile to be used for cooking and heating during the winter months.
