The National Memorial Arboretum, is a 150 acre site located in the National Forest, close to Litchfield. The site was former gravel and sand pits, and donated by the owners. The National Memorial Arboretum was established in 1997 and has been planted with over 50,000 trees. Since 2007 the Arboretum had been home to the Armed Forces Memorial which is dedicated to those who have given their lives since 1945 in the service of the country. The sad fact is, it already lists some 16,000 names with further space for another 15,000. There are over 130 major memorials and the number is growing. There is a self service restaurant at the site where you can sit and reflect. The Memorial is easy to reach by road from the M6 Toll and there is a bus service from Burton on Trent. Admission is free but there is a £2 charge to use the car park.
