Where To Catch The Boat To Lundy
Lundy's supply ship and passenger ferry, the MS Oldenburg, is based here in Bideford, although it more often sails from Ilfracombe because the harbour there isn't as dependent on the tides. The boat has a maximum capacity of 267 passengers and sails up to four times a week (plus occasional special journeys) from the end of March until the end of October.
Because the river here is tidal the sailing times vary, as do the dates. We try to average one trip a week from Bideford with the departure times between 7.30 to 10 am and returns about 7 pm. The journey time is approximately 2 hours.
Lundy's year-round shore office is also based here, at The Quay where the Oldenburg is docked. The office is open 8 am to 5 pm Monday to Saturday during the winter for enquiries, advance bookings and for general administrative work for the Island. During the boat season these opening times accommodate the sailings.

Go For A Few Beers Then Get Driven Home!
Not being a car driver myself this is something that I won't have the opportunity to use but it sounds like an enterprising idea.
Basically if you're going out for a drink then you can book a driver to pick you and your car up at a specified time and place (from midday until late). The chauffeur arrrives on a collapsible motorbike which is then stowed in your car boot and you get driven home in your own vehicle.
The business is based in Barnstaple and covers an area of about 15 miles radius. Whilst it is best to book (and pay) at least 24 hours in advance, it may be possible to arrange a pick-up at the last minute if they have a free driver.
