Originally a private mansion owned by George Sheard (1835-1902), a local mill owner.

It is set in a quiet part of Wilton Park within a rhodendron Garden with a fountain. If you do not fancy a uphill walk from the main entrance it is advisable to access the museum via Upper Batley Lane via the housing estate where there is ample parking.

Other areas of interest in this part of the park are butterfly gardens in the greenhouse and an Observatory - both with limited opening times.

This is the town where I spent the majority of my life. It is in the industrial region of Yorkshire where many relics of the textile industry can still be found.
