Favorite thing: The photo was taken outside a garden centre near the Barley Mow pub in Birtley - it's early November and this giant inflatable Santa has been there since early October.
It's flopped over a few times, reasons including kids deflating the Santa by unzipping it's back...
...but a more popular opinion is that he's been having too many brandys!
Birtley itself has nothing much too do or see - there's a couple of pubs in what is basically an annex of Gateshead - the Angel of the North is well, er, to the North. A few miles to south is the Historic Cathederal City of Durham, with Beamish Museum a few miles to the west along the A693
