Bury is the home of the East Lancashire Railway, one of the UK’s premiere preserved railways and a trip on the line is a journey back in time.

Volunteers along with the assistance of local Councils have restored the traditional station building and track back to its former glory. This has contributed to the line being presented with numerous awards.

Using both restored steam and occasionally preserved diesel locomotives, the line now operates a regular service from Heywood, through Bury to Rawtenstall every weekend, holiday periods and weekdays during the summer.

Themed weekends and other special events are also held on a regular basis throughout the year.
