When out walking on Dartmoor you will be sure to come across one of the many ancient crosses that are scattered over the moor !! If you look carefully at this one you will see " Mags ", My friend's Dog lurking in the Long Grass besides this one !!! Dartmoor Really is a Walkers Paradise on a warm Sunny July Day But I was pleasantly surprised to see how few people were actually out walking !! ??
When visiting Dartmouth then Don't miss going on one of the River Dart Cruises !! Especially if you have done a long walk then this will make a Really Pleasant Change -- You get to watch the scenery slowly drift past you -- a Nice and Relaxing experience !!
One thing of interest that you will pass on the river is the old home of " Agatha Christie " as shown in the photo -- Her descendants still own and live in the house !!
Departing hourly from the quay-side these cruises cost £5 and last one hour -- So Good Value for money too
Oh if I only had Loads of Money !! Then this is something that I would Love to have a crack at !!! It must be wonderful to slowly and relatively silently drift across the open country and over the moors in a Hot Air Balloon !!! One Day Maybe -- I Hope !!!!????
When you are out on Dartmoor you will surely come across a few locals !!?? Here is a pic of some of them at their home on the rock !! Very Pleasant for them too -- well in the summer months -- But I wouldn't fancy living up here in the middle of winter !! What about You ????
If you are Taking a Dog with you whilst walking on the Moor then if you are not !00% sure of how the dog will react amongst Sheep, Ponies and Cattle than it is Best to Keep it on a Lead !!! There have been a few instances lately of Dog Owners getting trampled by cattle -- especially if the cattle have young calves with them, then they are nervous of dogs and people can get Badly Hurt -- Be Warned -- Be Safe !!!
When touring around South Devon then take a few back-roads !! You'll never know what you might stumble across around the next corner !! -- we stumbled across the village of Cornworthy, a Beautiful and unspoilt old Devon Village !! we stopped and too a look around this old Church -- a Beautiful Old Building !! And a Great Day Out !!!!
Whilst out walking on the Moor, be sure to keep an eye out for the Dartmoor Ponies !! They still run semi-wild out on the open moor and Really are a Beautiful sight if you are Lucky enough to catch a glimpse of them !!!
To Me the Best form of Sports Travel is Walking -- I can't think of a Better way of seeing the place that you are visiting, the exercise will do you no harm at all and if like me, you still enjoy that occasional smoke then a Cigarette never tastes any better than at the end of a Good Walk !!!!!
Favorite thing: Without Doubt the Highlight of this trip for me was the walk on Dartmoor, The weather was fabulous, the Views were Awesome and it Really was a Brilliant day out !! -- Just be aware that the weather isn't always so good on the moor so ALWAYS go prepared, Map. Compass. Waterproofs and extra food + the usual necessities of a first aid kit, a whistle etc. etc. -- and Don't rely on a mobile phone to get you out of trouble as there isn't always a reception out on the moor !! Having said all that Go prepared But Enjoy Your Day --- I Know That I Did !!!
