This is a simply beautiful place - made all the nicer by the lovely Verger who welcomed us on Easter Sunday - lovely gent who made our holiday who gave us so much helpful info - and there was no charge for taking photos in the church - the town is nice as well

Sorry to disappoint you guys, but we've just come back from visiting Culross - to put it bluntly its an absolute dump - unless you like seeing the views of an oil refinery when you're parking your car. There is absolutely nothing there - don't waste your time visiting it - there are plenty more beautiful places in Scotland to visit - try the Trossachs - in particular Loch Katerine - simply stunning!

When you have a tele-lense you may also see the great details in the facade of the palace.
I was luck with the weather that day, with the sun shining directely on the building, giving the 3 different structures of the gables a special glance.

The Abbey was founded in 1217.
Unfortunately the top of the pic was cut by VT in the small size...
BUT if you click on my pic, you may as well see the top of the church-tower that was built like a fortified tower, where gun-men could fight against enemies in times of danger & wars.
NOT really my kind of understanding of the sense of a church, but in older times it seemed to be usual, as many excemples also in Austria show.

The whole town of Culross was totally restored by "The National Trust".
It is not a museum , but a living community.
The houses date back to the 17th century, but the families living inside these houses have all the comfort of today.

Culross is an old mining-village, a few Km north of Edinburg.
It might be a great place for a stop-over on your way to the north of Scotland.
On my pic on the right :
The tower of that house is called " the study" and it is the only building you may visit, including a few rooms, beautifully furnished with anchient furniture.

Pretty Scottish town - we also visited Bell Blair Athol Distillery - although there were only 4 of us on the trip - the staff made us feel very welcome and treated us like royalty.
