Castle Urquhart
Helpfulness
travelmad478 710 reviews
This castle is fairly impressive as a ruin, but the steep entrance fee and the crowds of tourists crawling all over it make it a lot less pleasant than it could be. There's a large visitor center, with museum and gift shop, and parking for what seems like hundreds of cars. Try to do it in an off-peak hour, or an off-peak day.

Hiking around Drumnadrochit
Helpfulness
travelmad478 710 reviews
There are a number of great places to hike in the region. The best one we found was Glen Affric, an area of public land that is reserved for hiking, fishing, and other bracing outdoor activities. We brought the dogs out one brisk day for a tramp through the fields and streams of this glen.

Maes Howe: Very nice B6B
JohannaKaarina Says:
I stayed in Maes Howe one night with my husband in May 2006. Room was really lovely with beautiful views. The lady who runs the B&B was really friendly and nice and served extremely good breakfast! As there is only two rooms, sharing bathroom was no trouble.
Loch Ness Monster Exhibition Center
This town is proud of the Nessie thing. Personally, I don't believe in the elusive monster, but the Exhibition Center is one-of-a-kind, nothing like it anywhere else! Maybe it's worth a visit for that reason alone...

Moniack Castle Winery
Helpfulness

Stop in at the Moniack Castle vineyard for a tour, or just a tasting of their excellent fruit wines and preserves. I was very taken by the pear and peach wines, and bought a couple of jars of jelly also. The winery is located about 15 miles northeast of Drumnadrochit, in the direction of Beauly.
