Hire a narrow boat for the day at Portland Basin Marina at the Ashton/Dukinfield border and cruise down the canal as far as Marple. The hire boats are 'Mary'and 'Alice' and come equipped with two burner hob, sink, crockery, tea and coffee and flushing toilets.Cabins are heated for cooler days, with seating and table available in the cabin as well as seating on the front and rear decks. You get a short tutorial on how to operate the boat plus safety instructions(dont worry if you fall overboard as the water is only four feet deep),boats will take up to ten people.
It will take almost three and a half hours to reach Marple passing under some sixteen bridges,so kick back and enjoy the lovely countryside,at Woodley there are two pubs to stop at on either side of the canal both are only a five minute walk away so you can moore up and quench your thirst.
Boats are available for hire all year round, seven days a week, its £90 for week days and £120 for weekends and bank holidays, you have from 9am till 4.30pm,extended hire till 8.30pm is an extra £50.Evening hire from 5.30pm till 9pm is £60.

The REAL capitol of England

I lived in Dukinfield for over a year and I really want to dispute the fact that London is the capitol. Based on my experience, the guides have conspired to deceive people to visit London. Shortly...
