Millfield House Arts Centre and Theatre

The jewel in Edmonton's crown is the theatre, built in 1988 in the grounds of the House, which is a grade II listed building with grounds, and it's just at the end of my road! The theatre has a youth programme enabling young people to learn acting at a reasonable cost. There are regular plays and reviews all through the year, with pantomimes at Christmas. The house and grounds are licenced for weddings and functions.

Karparsia Kebab: Smell the barbeque!

This is a posh kebab shop with a takeaway section at the front of the shop and nicely laid out tables in the back. It is licenced to sell drink and the food always smells delicious. It reminds me of a Greek taverna with whole families coming to spend the evening.

Favorite Dish: Any of the seasoned meats from the barbeque.

This pub is near Silver Street station, about 15 minutes walk away from my house, opposite Pymmes Park (hence the name!) It is a decent place with a warm atmosphere and a nice beer garden.

I don't recommend it as highly, but there is a nearer pub in Silver Street: The Bull

Hairdome: Hair and Beauty

Ideal for that Saturday morning pamper when you're too hung over to drive or get the bus anywhere! They do an acceptable well priced haircut, and tanning booths. If you want a beautician there's one just next door.

What to pay: £11 for a wet cut,£23 cut and blow dry

Wood Green: The Oxford Street of North London

Wood Green is an shopping area stretching from Wood Green tube to Turnpike Lane tube with an atmosphere somewhere in between Oxford Street and Brixton. It is a lively and cosmopolitan area and has no shotage of shops and small businesses, stalls and market traders, cinemas and lots of interesting places to eat and drink.

What to buy: Clothes mainly, everything from designer to market stall, and there is a great branch of Woolworths here too which sells great things for the home.

Tatem Park

Right on the busy Cambridge Roundabout, you will notice as you pass it on the bus on the way home, Tatem Park. It is a beautifully landscaped garden perfect for a picnic or an evening stroll, or when you fancy a bit of peace and quiet in lush surrondings. It is no longer a skate park. This has been moved next to the tennis courts further down the road.
