Bristol Favorites

Favorite thing: Here we are,next to Arnolfini. A nice and sunny winter day. And there is me and the great Bristolian ( although originally Italian -Giovanni )John Cabot, trying to figure out were Newfoundland is...
I believe its that way.... :-)

Favorite thing: For those of you who like shopping there is a large out of town shopping centre on the northern edge of the city at Cribbs Causeway.
There are 2 major stores there. One at each end of the Mall - John Lewis and Marks & Spencers

Favorite thing: For free internet access visit the Bristol Central Library (second floor). The learning centre has about 40 computers and you are allowed 2 hours of computer time per day. If you are a tourist/visitor you are able to sign on as a 'guest', otherwise you need a library card If you live in the area. Sometimes you may have to book ahead, but usually there is a free computer available. Printing is also available (10p a sheet).

Fondest memory: The library is situated right beside Bristol Catherdral, over College Green (bottom of Park Street). You can book a computer on 0117 903 7234 (you need a library card number to do this), otherwise just pop in and hope there is a computer spare (the earlier, the better. Try and avoid lunchtimes).

Favorite thing: See the Clifton suspension bridge. Other suspension bridges may be longer, but this is a magnificent piece of Victorian engineering, spanning the breathtaking Avon Gorge high above the waters - or more usually mud - of the River Avon. It is as much a symbol of the city as the Eiffel Tower is of Paris or the Leaning Tower is of Pisa.

Favorite thing: See the SS Great Britain - (expensive to tour) but great to see for free from around & about, and the rest of the harbour & dock area

Fondest memory: Living there ! Bristol is subtle, it takes time to reveal its delights

Favorite thing: Check out the markets! St Nicholas Markets is a fab place for finding all sorts of stuff for bargain prices.

Fondest memory: Well, what I miss most is of course my fiancee, who lives in Bristol!:) I cry every time I have to leave his loving arms, and am planning to move to Bristol or the neighboring city of Bath (gorgeous!) later this summer.

I am in love with Blaise Castle Estate on the northwestern side of Bristol. It's a gorgeous park, and my all-time favourite tv series Robin of Sherwood was filmed there. It must be one of the most beautiful places I've ever visited and I hope I can continue visiting it for the rest of my life!

Favorite thing: In the dock area you can also go and see the BB Great Britain, the first of great luxury ocean liners, built in 1843 and designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

It's considered the forerunner of all modern ships and was the largest ship of its day. It carried over 15,000 emigrants to Australia.

The ticket costs you £6.50 but I cannot say if this price is worth it because Louise and I chose instead to go on with our tour of Bristol on foot and I took this pic from the other side of the river.

Favorite thing: a small church built into the old Bristol walls.

It's preserved by the Churches Conservation Trust which look after churches which are no longer needed for regular worship but are of historic, architectural or archeological importance.
