Venue for many a fine gig by up-and-coming or once-famous performers. Look out in particular for appearances by Bristol pub band K-Passa. Think Pogues with a westcountry accent and you won't be far wrong. Their gigs are a blast.

This pub is one of the oldest in Clifton, and has been notorious for decades. The reason is that it sells Exhibition cider, which is sweet and tastes of harmless apple juice. But it is about 8.6% alcohol, and in fact the pub will only serve it in half-pint measures due to it being so strong. During term time the pub is rammed full of students, and it can get a bit noisy and sweaty. The fun is watching the students trying to drink 5 Exhibitions, thinking it's innocuous, and then literally falling over unconscious! This is probably the only 'must-see' pub in Bristol and even has its own website. You might need to go there early (i.e. before about 8pm) if you want to get a seat, or get in at all.... :-)
No dress code, it's a normal pub. On Friday and Saturday nights they have bouncers on the doors to stop it getting too crowded, so don't be surprised if you can't get in. The Arnolfini faces the Watershed across St Augustine's Reach linked to it by a lifting footbridge officially known as Pero's Bridge after an 18th century African slave boy but always known as the Horned Bridge because of its distinctive trumpet-like counterweights. It complements and overlaps with the Watershed in function - it has a specialist cinema and a very good waterside cafe, but also galleries devoted to contemporary graphic art and a performance space. An honest, comfortable pub to while away an evening with friends. Lots of students in the area so very crowded in termtime. Mainly local trade outside those times. Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and DrinkingDirections: 5 Gloucester Road, St Andrews

Italian trattoria near the Theatre Royal. Very popular with the theatrical crowd from either side of the curtain, and also with BBC folk out on the razzle. The walls are lined with signed photographs of everybody who has ever been anybody in British theatre since WW2 - they've all either played here or passed through the Old Vic Theatre School or both. Bristol has long been associated with photography and the cinema even if, to its eternal shame, it fails to give due acknowledgement to Cary Grant. The Watershed is an apt facility, incorporating two cinema screens showing films you wouldn't see at mainstream cinemas, darkroom facilities for photographers, exhibition spaces and a very good cafe-bar where you can sit and watch life go by on the harbour.
