SHANGRI-LA at The Old Porthouse The only club in Bristol that plays 60's soul music. It is on every Friday, 10.00-3.00. Entry - £3 before 11, £4 before 12, £5 after. Very large club, 2 dance floors, 2 bars, brilliant atmosphere.
I don't think there's a dress code but a few of the blokes were wearing suits Leave a Comment Theme: NightclubDirections: Prince street, (opposite Jury's hotel)

Spotted Cow, Fishponds and Dojo, Park Row First one is a cosy local boozer and second is a cramped cellar nightclub with excellent music.

Bristol`s Colston Hall is a venue where you can watch all kinds of events including concerts and wrestling. In the 80`s I had tickets to go and see Adam Ant but unbeknown to us the concert had been cancelled. We didn`t find out until we travelled all the way to Bristol so we ended up going ice skating instead. I have seen professional wrestling there with the likes of Pat Roach who pushed past me and Big Daddy who let me carry his suitcases for him.
Anything you want within reason, depending on the event. Leave a Comment Theme: TheaterAddress: BristolDirections:

Most of central bristol is a bit of a jungle friday and saturday nights, but King Street is not... There's several bars and restaurants there - avoid Club Med or whatever its called like the lepper it is - but go to the Old Duke (jazz pub) and opposite the Llandoger Trow (allegedly inspiriation for the 'Admiral Benbow' in Treasure Island)
Old Duke: its Jazz man, cool daddy-o! Llandoger: Long John Silver.. Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and DrinkingAddress: King Street

The Lounge is a great place for a drink. And you can also eat really well if the need takes you. Parents who still need to be 'out there' should bring the kids (a no smoking area before 5pm) Kids are welcome which is wonderful if like me you miss going to 'normal' fashionable bars since the kids have been born. The food is great because you can either nibble on pistachios and beer nuts, move on to hummous and bread. Or go the whole hog and have homemade burgers or great salads and pasta dishes. They do great fresh smoothies for the non alcoholics or kids! They also offer an array of games to keep the young adults or kids entertained. The Lounge have seemed to get just the right mix of kiddy friendly and glamour - Very laid back and very reminiscent of fabulous London pubs that I'm used to.

Mr Wolf's is a music venue with a difference - it doubles up as a noodle bar. It's features numerous live acts, including (gratuitous plug here) Grumpy Man - Bristol's, nay the world's finest miserablist music collective. If you are lucky you might catch someone genuinely famous playing here - usually unannounced - Portishead and Ryan Adams have done secret gigs in the past.

The Tabacco Factory is a large foodie bar with a local theatre attached that attracts a lovely crowd in the week. As well as having a kiddie friendly area inside, it also has a large patio garden out the back. The bar has a lovely laid back atmosphere and offers great nibbles and food. My only complaint is that its in South Bristol(I live North!) I also went on a saturday night and the 'lads' were out in full force! so depending on the day you have a different vibe going on. I definitely prefer the working week crowd. They also do a food/bricabrac market in the car park every third sunday of the month. A serious and dedicated jazz venue, unfashionably south of the Avon, that attracts top acts, especially at weekends. At lunchtimes it's a pretty good local pub too, with reasonable meals, but in the evening unless you're there for the the jazz, the back bar can seem rather bleak. I went there a few years ago for an unforgettable evening with the Ingrid Laubrock band, causing a stir at the interval by dramatically hugging the keyboard player, my good friend Kim Burton. Amazing stuff! Leave a Comment Theme: Live MusicAddress: 1 West Street, BedminsterPhone: 0117 966 1968

The Bristol Ram is a Young's pub, and as such serves some quite good beers (although since being bought out they are reducing their range). It was appropriately busy on a Saturday night. It's quite a good place, and has a projection TV for sport.
