The Castle was used as an elegant summer house by the Harford family, who owned the Estate. In later years, after the area became a public park, the building was vandalised, but it has been renovated through the efforts of the Friends of Blaise Castle.

Blaise Castle House was designed by Thomas Paty for John Scandrett Harford, a wealthy merchant and banker. Since 1949 it has been a branch of the Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery, a showplace for the social history collection.

Blaise Castle Hamlet has a storybook air, with thatched roofs, Jacobean chimneys and a pump on the green, complete with weathervane. There are nine buildings, one of them originally divided into two cottages. Each of the cottages is different.

This isn't actually a castle but a folly on top of a tree covered hill. It's a lovely walk to reach it, through woods with a stream and an old mill. There's lots of parkland to have a picnic, kick a ball around, a playground and there used to be a miniature train that you caould have a ride on but maybe that's not there now.
The house is used for school visits where the children experience what it would have been like in a victorian school.I'm not sure if it's open to the public - perhaps it is.
