Cinnamon Cafe: The best cornish cream tea outside cornwall..

by jonesi Updated Apr 25, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Real Cream Tea

Traditional English cafe, in the middle of pretend Italian coffee houses. The best coffee and cream tea, good traditional cafe food. Bacon Butties and cakes to die for. Seating inside the old booking hall, and outside on the main concourse. Easy sofa and chairs mix with normal cafe furniture. Great service with friendly staff. The best Latte I have tasted in the UK. The price was better than anything in the area I have tried. Tell them you are local for an extra discount...

Favorite Dish: Afternoon Cream Tea, with Cornish Scone and clotted Cream, good portion of Jam, The coffee was excellent.

  • Antalya, Windsor: Utterly disappointing

by Mrow Written Nov 20, 2006

We visited this restaurant as an alternative to the exceptionally good Green Olive. We telephoned ahead and booked a table, but we were squashed between a party of 12 on one side and a couple on the other. The waitress explained that another table had been reserved for us but given to a group of three people who had walked in (even though we had arrived on time for a pre-booking). Looking forward to trying the food, we accepted the table, (a move we regretted as people from the party almost had to sit on our table to get by and nearly knocked our wine over in the process).
We opted for a selection of mezes so we could try a variety of dishes. The restaurant has a Meze Selection with just two options, neither of which appealed so we checked with the waitress that we should select the from the 'Starters and Mezes' selection. We chose 7 dishes costing approx £40.00/$75 (excl wine) - this seeming more than enough for two people. What arrived - two side plates with three supposed mezes on each (incl three miniature vine leaves, three pieces of beef and three pieces of grilled cheese each the size of a UK 50p, and some slithers of lamb on 7 French fries). My partner spoke with the manager to explain how disappointed we were and he said we should have chosen one of their mezes. When I explained we had been told we could make our own selection and that the heading said 'Mezes' he became aggressive and said there was nothing he could do about that and that they were actually only meant as starters (in spite of the heading). The couple (sandwiched) at the next table said they could not believe they were trying to charge that money for two side plates, and had also been disappointed with their meal. We left the sparrow-portion morsels on the plate and went somewhere else for a proper meal (having paid out money for this regrettable lesson).
The only things that could make me to return to the restaurant would be some kind of high expense weight loss programme or a masochistic wish to be insulted and pay for the privilege.

Favorite Dish: Food too insubstantial to comment on.

    The Swan.: Quiet local pub.

by Tdiver Written Jul 7, 2006
    The Swan,Clewer village,Windsor.

Lovely quiet local pub which really only sees locals but as it's on the cycle route towards Bray and Maidenhead and only 20 minutes from the centre of Windsor,it is not too far out of the way.Used to play in the dart team here a few years ago.Unsure if the new Landlords are doing food.
