    Burgers: Swiss chocolate heaven

by SallyM Written Jan 27, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Burgers is a bakery, chocolatier and cafe, now run by the second generation of the family.

They do light meals, but it is a great place to stop for afternoon tea. It is located on The Causeway, next to the famous Marlow bridge and by the entrance to Higginson Park.

Tea is properly served with an additional pot of hot water, and the hot chocolate is excellent. Cakes and chocolate confections are freshly made on the premises, and you can buy chocolates and bakery products on the way out.

Favorite Dish: Chocolate ganache slice is very small, but extremely rich and absolutely delicious. My other half enjoyed the Black Forest Gateau (without cherries) - missing a vital ingredient some might think, but he hates cherries, so thought he was in heaven.

    Marlow Bar & Grill

    by JayGatsby951 Written Oct 4, 2006

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Marlow Bar & Grill features rather elegant, good quality food, with quite an eclectic menu. The downside: The prices are a bit too high (No surprise in the UK) and you have to be careful where you sit, as some areas of this packed place become deafening in the evening and you won't be able to hear what your friend is saying. Still, all in all a respectable establishment.

Villa D'Este: the salmon is delicate here

by nebulaflash Updated Jul 26, 2004

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is a fine dining experience and the food is usually very good. The ambience is lively but not too loud and the staff are on the ball, very professional.

Favorite Dish: Last time I had the Salmon and it was tender and in a delicious cream sauce with a few shrimp. Also the Tiramisu is creamy with very little starch.

Burgers of Marlow Ltd.: the best Welsh Rarebit

by nebulaflash Written Jul 26, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This bakery has been here since the 1940's and the tea-shop serves a lovely little lunch by bay windows where you can watch people passing by the busy street.

Favorite Dish: The Welsh Rarebit is what Burgers is most famous for. It's not just cheese on toast. The topping is a light and tasty mixture of flavourful cheese, eggs and milk which fluffs up to a golden crust under the grill. It is served with a little green salad. A pot of coffee fills three cups nicely and is full of flavour too. My sister's tradition to follow a lunch here is to purchase a Violet cream chocolate on the way out - a taste of Victorian England.
