The Folk Museum is Cambridge's local museum which is located in a former inn. The exhibitions show the history of Cambridge with a focus on everyday life with exhibits such as clothes and toys. A part of the exhibition is dedicated to the building's history with a 19th century bar. Temporary exhibitions are shown in one of their rooms too, the one I saw during my visit was about WWI.
I liked the museum and its local stories and had an enjoyable stay. However, there are much more interesting sights to see in Cambridge. At the end, this museum is not able to distinguish itself from other local history museums. Feel free to visit, but do the more important sites first.

This is a museum about daily life in past times. You have to walk a bit to get to it, maybe 10 minutes from the market square and the tourist information. The building is from 1600 and used to be a pub. It's very narrow inside, small rooms and even smaller staircases. hard to move even when there are only a few visitors.
The exhibitions start with drinking - showing a bar - then eating - a kitchen. The priorities have to be observed, after all this used to a pub.
Upstairs are items from childhood, farm life , a doctor's practice.
The museum was a bit crammed and sometimes I was afraid to move for fear I'd bump into an exhibition item. But on the whole it's a place I 'd recommend.
There is a small store in the museum.
    Entrance fee was 3 GBP.

    Update August 2008:
A car crashed into the museum just before the bank holiday. The museum is temporarily closed, while they try to find out how much damage was done. Hopefully not too much.

The Museum holds a social history collection about the life and times of Cambridge and Cambridgeshire people.

The museum has recently re-opened following refurbishment and redevelopment.
