    Riverside Cafe: Riverside Cafe's

There are several cafes along the waterfront of Chester..usually quite busy on a glorious sunny day...so just find one with a table free and enjoy somehing to eat and watching the antics on the river.

  • The Riverside Cafe, Chester: Don't Bother

by clarkbrilyn Written Jul 2, 2014

Today we had the sorry experience of choosing (out of all the lovely places to eat in Chester) the Riverside Cafe. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. I ordered a soup (which was OK) and a Club Sandwich but in a wrap instead of bread. This consisted of very cheap ham and quite nice chicken wrapped (and I use that term losely!!!) in a tortilla - no mayonnaise to hold it together and the salad was a few lettuce leaves on the side - not in the sandwich - and one quarter of a tomato. The tortilla had been cut very strangely and had not been wrapped to contain the few ingredients - in other words it was chicken and ham rolled in a piece of tortilla, open at both ends so the diner would be wearing rather than eating this thing. Luckily I do know how to wrap a wrap and requested some mayonnaise and proceeded to sort my lunch out myself. This is very poor because really it is not rocket science. My husband ordered a baguette for which he was charged extra from the sandwich charge and received an oversized hot dog bun with a piece of plastic beef and two quarters of tomato along side his soup, again the soup was OK. We had two small (and I mean small) glasses of cola and this came to the grand total of £24.00 and were sorry we had not called into M&S bought two sandwiches and two drinks and sat on the benches by the river and enjoyed same. This place needs to up its game, although as there is not really a huge choice on the river bank they probably don't have to worry about return visitors as there will always be someone daft enough to call in and leave their food on the table

Down by the riveside, convenient place to rest those feet and people watch.

Favorite Dish: Well Steve seemed to enjoy his cream tea here....
