Favorite thing: Although the history of Cheshire can be traced back to between 38,0000 BC and 40,0000 BC Cheshire is probably better known for the Romans occupation from 70AD that lasted for almost 400 years. During this period the town and fort of Deva Victrix (later called Chester) was created. After the Romans withdrew, Cheshire became part of Mercia, an Anglo-Saxon kingdom that was troubled by invasions from the Welsh and the Danes. The Norman Conquest in 1070 saw Cheshire again change hands and in 1642 the county was dragged into the English Civil War despite attempts to keep the county neutral.

Fondest memory: One of the things I love about the day trips to Cheshire is that often when travelling home we get to see such beautiful sunsets over the cheshire countryside and the Dee Estuary as we get closer to home. So these pics show a few recent favouites. (taken November 2005)
