  • Bear and Billet

    3.5 out of 5 stars

    Chester Restaurants

The Bear and Billet is a great old pub in Chester. It was built in 1664 replacing a building destroyed during the civil war. The Bear and Billet is a great example of a black and white half timbered building. It was originally the town house of the Earls of Shrewsbury (the sergeants of the Bridgegate), The building has been an inn since the 18th...

  • The Albion

    3.5 out of 5 stars

    Chester Restaurants

This is not a restaurant. It is a pub that serves food and that was very basic. We went there as a group of four. Not made to feel welcome. In actual fact, as there was a quiz going on we felt in the way and left as soon as we had eaten to continue the night in another pub down the road at which we were made to feel very welcome. We were not offered...

  • Riverside Cafe

    1 out of 5 stars

    Chester Restaurants

Today we had the sorry experience of choosing (out of all the lovely places to eat in Chester) the Riverside Cafe. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. I ordered a soup (which was OK) and a Club Sandwich but in a wrap instead of bread. This consisted of very cheap ham and quite nice chicken wrapped (and I use that term losely!!!) in a...

  • Coffee Republic

    Chester Restaurants

Coffee Republic is a chain of coffee places - a bit like the British version of Starbucks but (only a little bit) cheaper. As I don't drink coffee I normally don't go to these places. Coffee Republic had some tasty snacks though so I had a cold drink and a chicken and pepper toastie which was really tasty (and really expensive unfortunately!).

  • The Cheshire Cat

Given that we were on the 'Chasing the Cheshire Cat' mini-roadtrip, it was only fitting that our lunch stop was at the Cheshire Cat pub/inn, in Christleton. Even though it was Sunday, and the place was quite full, the service was fast and efficient. Our orders were taken in 2-3 minutes, and food began arriving 10 minutes later, with minimal...

  • Good steaks - nice seafood

We had a very nice meal here. Steaks are the primary offering but seafood and other dishes were also featured on the menu. It's a buzzy, modern restaurant located near the wall in downtown Chester, part of a chain from the NW with one location also in London.

  • Nice Tea

The coffee shop is on the Lyme Park Estate, not far form the Information centre, and set next to an old mill pond. It was formally a mill building and you can sit outside. We had tea and Bakewell tart (not pudding) and it was very tasty, though not for you calorie counters.

  • Pub with a view!

Built in 1830 by John Ryle, A Macclesfield banker and Freemason. This pub is a landmark for those travelling on the Buxton to Macclesfield Road (A537). It is officially the second highest Inn in Britain at 1690 feet, but there is some controversy as to whether the measurement is accurate, so it might actually be higher than The Tan Hill Inn!Popular...

  • A famous pub on an Infamous road

I used to go here in my Biking days and have a swift coca cola. On any a given summer Sunday afternoon the pub car park is packed with bikers. This is down to the pub being situated on the Infamous and arguably 'The most dangerous road in England' scores of people (mainly bikers) have been killed on this road but they still come in there droves on...
