Getting to Cheshire by Car
If you want to visit more than Chester, a car will be needed as buses do not serve more rural locations frequently enough (especially on weekends). For visiting places like Tatton Park it's a must (unless you're joining an organised tour.Cheshire is served mainly by the M6 motorway (with access from London via M25 and M1) - the drive from South-East London is about 3.5 hours, but beware of roadworks that frequently clog up both M25 and M1. Given the length of the journey, we found it worth the cost to go via M6 Toll (around 5GBP, depending on hour and day of the week) to cut the travel time somewhat. In Cheshire itself, use either M6 or M42, or a network of dual carriageways.
