Blackwell is a suburb in the borough of Darlington and the ceremonial county of County Durham. It is situated towards the edge of the West End of Darlington, beside the River Tees.
Blackwell consists of large 1930s style semi-detached and detached houses, and private, newly built homes.
Blackwell Grange is an 18th-century country house converted into an hotel. We spent a night in this hotel in May of 2004.

We visited Durham on the way from York to Edinburgh.
This charming city sits on the River Wear and is well known for its Norman Cathedral and 11th century Castle, both designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Upon the most central and prominent position high above the Wear, the cathedral dominates the skyline. The steep riverbanks are densely wooded, adding to the picturesque beauty of the city. The castle has been the home of Durham University since 1832.
At the base of the peninsula is the Market Place.

Have a wanderaround the river foot[path. All kinds of great views of thecastle and cathedral. From the railwaystation you have a great view, and all around the river you han see the catedral (and sometimes the castle too) loomingover you.
Fondest memory: Staying in the castle. having breakfast in the Great Hall.
Favorite thing: This page is for County Durham, rather than Durham City. If you want to see Durham City go to Durham under the United Kingdom link, rather than the England link.
