Explore the World of Beatrix Potter
The Mrs is a mad Peter Rabbit fan and so, as we were in the Lake District for a few days, a trip to see The World of Beatrix Potter was a must see.
There is a short film at the beginning, to let all the non Beatrix Potter fans know some history and background into the phenomenon.
The place itself is very well laid out and is very interactive, in parts. You'll meet all the favourite Beatrix Potter characters here, in one guise or another.
It has a decent tea shop and a well stocked gift shop.
We spent a pleasant few hours here in the morning before heading off to Hill Top, the real life house of Miss Potter.

Take a boat on Windermere Lake
This is just one of those things that you have to do - with or without the kids!! Ha ha!! The kids loved it when we took them but Paul and I have been out on our own a few times too.
Lake Windermere is huge and with a number of small islands to navigate you can easily spend an hour floating around the lake in one of the motor boats which are available to hire. It is possible to hire a boat for a full day but this is only really recommended if you get a particularly nice day and you can enjoy the sun while on the lake.
There are also a number of other boats on the Lake - quite a few sailing boats and a few mini-yacht type things as well. Unfortunately motorsports were banned on the Lake a few years back (jet-ski-ing etc) so no longer an option here - this supposedly adds to the sense of tranquility but I am firmly of the opinion that the Lake is large enough for all to enjoy....
The cost to hire a motorboat is £18 for an hour (although there are other options available - rowing boats for example). Not sure of day / half day rates but these are available.
