After visiting the World of Beatrix Potter at Bowness, we decided to take a trip to the actual house where Beatrix Potter lived, Hill Top in Hawkshead.
To get across lake Windermere we took the direct route and took the delightful Windermere Ferry, which goes between Ferry Nab, Bowness and Ferry House, Far Sawrey (Daily).
Starting at 06:50 (08:50 on Sundays) and every 30 minutes until 20:50. Departure from Ferry House, Far Sawrey 07:00 (09:00 on Sundays) and every 30 minutes until 21:00.
The ferry is situated at the middle of the lake and connect Bowness on Windermere to the village of Hawkshead. Be sure to visit both places and not just Bowness, Hawkshead is a great little village with places to eat and drink and a few shops including the world famous Hawkshead outdoor shop. The ferry trip is worth going on alone, its a very tranquil crossing and it gives you a great view of the lake.
It runs every 20 minutes until early evening and costs around ?1 for a full car.
