Explore the World of Beatrix Potter
vichatherly Says:
The Mrs is a mad Peter Rabbit fan and so, as we were in the Lake District for a few days, a trip to see The World of Beatrix Potter was a must see. There is a short film at the beginning, to let all the non Beatrix Potter fans know some history and background into the...
Take a boat on Windermere Lake
Kristymamoo Says:
This is just one of those things that you have to do - with or without the kids!! Ha ha!! The kids loved it when we took them but Paul and I have been out on our own a few times too.Lake Windermere is huge and with a number of small islands to navigate you can easily spend...
North Lodge: Not as Described!
lahoobies Says:
I think Wordsworth wrote the blurb for the owner's of this cottages website! This self catering cottage is 4 star rated - but heavens knows how!The sofas were filthy and worn out, we wouldn't sit on them. The owners came round and bought throws to go on them, and only then...
North Lodge, Longtail Wood, Bowness on Windermere: Nice Cottage
Andreaflem Says:
North Lodge was a very pretty cottage with all amenities only a few minutes drive from Centre and lake, or a nice walk. I visited unfortunately when we had a lot of rain so the only problem I found was running from the car to the cottage without getting soaked. The car...
the Hydro Hotel: Room with a view
henry14 Says:
Large, roomy hotel. We were given a suite with a spectacular view over the cottage rooftops to the lake. Located in the town centre, a few minutes walk to the lake. The hotel is located a short walk up a fairly steep walk so might not be suitable for all, although it has a...
The Royal Oak Inn: Our favourite....
Kristymamoo Says:
This is by far our favourite place to stay when we visit the Lakes. We have stayed a few times and have never been disappointed. We are always met with a warm welcome and the service is excellent. The rooms are fairly basic (as is the price!!) but always clean and...
Crag Brow Holiday Let: Home Comforts
toontraveller Says:
When possible I try to stay for at least a week in the Lakes. Even though it's only a two hour drive for me I feel relaxed the longer I stay here so there isn't much point in rushing home. You do miss your home comforts when you're away though but Quarry Rigg is a lovely 3...
Vinegar Jones: Nothing beats it....
Kristymamoo Says:
There are many fabulous places to eat in Bowness, but on a warm summer's evening nothing beats eating fish and chips sitting on the shores of the Lake.Vinegar Jones sells the best fish & chips I have ever tasted!!The only thing I would say though is; for some reason if you...
Bodega Bar: The Spanish Lakes?
BlueBeth Says:
Unusual little tapas place set back on a tiny, tiny street (reminded me of Whitby or York) this is two or even three different places in one. The area that we sat in was mostly set aside for eating but there were plenty of people sat in the window watching the passing...
the stags head: night life clubbing
geordieradge Says:

The Wheelhouse: Down by the lake
toontraveller Says:
Bowness is not the hive of all activity at night times but there are plenty of pubs and a couple of late spots for those who want the night to last. I'm not sure what the opening hours are of the Wheelhouse now as its been some time since I last went there but its a decent...
Catch the Windermere Ferry to Hill Top

A tranquil lake

This is just 5 minutes walk from the Windermere - Hawkshead ferry on the Hawkshead side. Its amazing how peaceful this busy lake can be although this is in the evening and at off season.
There must be a million photos you could take of this lake but some of the best photos are available in the most accessible areas. I like to spend a while here in the evenings just to collect my thoughts.
