Chesterfield rail station is just on the outskirts of the town centre on Corporation street not far from the church with the crooked spire (St Mary and All Saints Parish church).
Trains run to and from:-
The original station built in 1840 was at the market place, this was known as Grand Central station and it was closed in 1963.
The station that stands today was modernized in 2005 and a statue of George Stephenson erected.
GEORGE STEPHENSON STATUE
The statue of George Stephenson was made by Stephen Hicklin, who has made statues of other famous people as well as doing work on film and stage sets.
BEWARE THE HUMPED PELICAN
Yeah, you guessed it; I was scanning the skies looking for the Humped Pelicans. Had to look in the skies because there were no bodies of water around.
This curious sign sits in the Haslund commercial centre. Exactly what a humped pelican is I have no idea, but I gather it is some kind of traffic diverter like a curious roundabout. Just another of those little mystery signs the Brits put up on their roads and streets.
