    ~ Pepito's Mexican Restaurant ~: ~ Fantastic Food At a Great Price ~

    by Heavens-Mirror Updated May 13, 2007

    ~ Pepitos ~

The food is absolutely gorgeous and comes in large portions. The prices are very reasonable and the staff are more than helpful. The atmosphere is great too. I once took Gaz for his Birthday and they played "Happy Birthday" across the restaurant and placed a huge mexican hat on his head and got him to have a tequila slammer. It was great but embarrassing for Gaz hehe.

It is best to make a reservation at Pepito's as it does get very busy at the weekends., we normally ring them a couple of nights before we want to go.

Favorite Dish: Cancun Chicken is my favourite. It is a huge piece of chicken breast with a tasty salsa sauce over it served with tasty fries and a side salad... It is around £8.00 and is a huge portion.

I have also tried the Fajitas which are really tasty too but are far too big for one to eat so its best to share.

I never used to be a fan of Indian Cusine until i came to this restaurant. It is convienently located just around the corner from where my Fiance lives.
The staff are very friendly and always provide a quick service, the food is quickly served nice and piping hot and the restaurant is very clean and welcomming.

It is usually always busy but no need to make a reservation as we have always just walked in and got a table within a couple of minutes.

This restaurant is by far my favourite in Derby. And its not expensive like some of them either which is a big bonus.

Favorite Dish: Poppadoms & Onion bahjee for starters. Chicken Madras for me and Chicken Tikka Vindaloo for Gaz and Pilau rice with a really tasty cheese naan bread along with a pint of Lager each to wash it down.
Madras is my favourite dish as it is very tasty and the chicken is always tender and fresh. The portions are quite large too.

Our total bill comes to only £26.00 for us both.... bargain price and our favourite restaurant too.

    ~ Anoki Indian Restaurant ~: ~ Luxury & Indulgence ~

The restaurant is absolutely beautiful inside. As you walk through the door, there is stunning marble stairs that lead up to it, the stairs are scattered with red rose pettles and tea light candles. Looks very romantic and also very pretty. We sure felt truely welcome.

Anoki was originally an upper floor movie theatre, with stunning ceilings and Indian Fashion and jewellery photos around the room, it is very colourful and looks fantastic. They also have a huge screen which plays authentic bollywood musicals.

All the staff are dressed in colourful authentic Indian costumes which gives it a really nice Indian feel. The restaurant is immaculate too, very clean and welcomming and we felt very relaxed.

See the website below for a full 360 tour of the restaurant and also the menu. Opening Times: Monday - Saturday 5.30pm -11.30pm. There is also free parking at the back of the restaurant.

Favorite Dish: Me & Gaz had Chicken tikki vindaloo, Chicken madras, boiled rice and a cheese nan. You also are given complimentary poppadoms and pickles which is a nice touch.

We had two bottles of Cobra Lager (these are big bottles, they are like a pint & a half so be careful if you are driving).

Our total bill came to £38.15. This is more expensive that most Indian restaurants but its a nice treat once in a while to go somewhere different and enjoy the luxury settings.

    Friar Street

A general observation here, but we were surprised to see so many independent coffee shops, bistros, cafes and bars. You could do well here on a day out, what with all the choices on offer!

This is a photo of Pierre Victoire and Zizzis, a French and Italian place respectively, stood on Friary Street. We were also pleased to see Greek tavernas and Mexican cantinas!

    Pizza Express: A quick pizza

    by St_Vincent Written May 27, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Although Pizza Express is a chain this restaurant has a certain character of its own with a very pleasant atmosphere. There are wooden floors and marble tables, an old fireplace and nicely decorated walls. There are some window seats at the front and a large room further back that is reached through two decorated arches. An open plan layout allows the diner to see the food being prepared. Service is friendly and efficient and the well designed menu is reasonable value.

Favorite Dish: Try the special Pancetta Pommodore pizza with a refreshing glass of Pinot Blush wine.

    MASA: FIRST CLASS

MASA came highly recommended and did not disappoint. This is a first class, wonderful restaurant that shouldn't be missed when visiting Derby. Very unusual in a reconverted church, MASA has a fantastic chef, and the service couldn't have been better. The desserts were especially well done and shouldn't be missed. Lunch is served in the downstairs room next to the wine bar, and dinner had diners sitting upstairs in the expanse that was the pews.

    Favorite Dish: Everything is excellent.

  • Emilys Steakhouse, Derby: Now! That's a steakhouse!!!!

by dalionli Written Apr 13, 2007

We came across a Emilys Steakhouse in Derby. You know you just fancy a big juicy steak from time to time. And going to Beefeaters or such like is a NO NO for me!!!

Emilys Steakhouse restaurant is small but very cosy. You know you feel right at home when you walked into the place. Immediately noticeable was a big painting hanging off the wall and then the person in the painting greeted us with a big smile.....and we guessed her name was Emily.

We couldn't wait, so we ordered a Chicken Wings and Salmon Wrap...Gorrrr they were delicious!!!

The steak were fabulous! I couldn't remember the last time when you ordered a medium steak and you get medium steak. Emilys Steakhouse is different...the steaks turned out EXACTLY the way you wanted...what can I say...PERFECT. And then their apparently famous homemade Onion Rings and garlic Portobella mushroom (It was huge!!!).

What can I say about their dessert!! Homemade Egg Custard tart and Creme Brulee and finished off with a cup of floated cream coffee. Apparently, we were lucky to sample the Egg Custard and Creme Brulee as normally you would have to order them in advance.

I wish they open up a restaurant in my home town, but realistically it's not going to happen!!!

Favorite Dish: Chargrilled Chicken Wings, Salmon Wrap
Juicy Steaks and cooked the way you asked for!!!!! - Rare nowadays (No punt intended)
Homemade Onion rings and the garlic Portobella Mushroom
Homemade Egg custard and Creme Brulee!!!

New Water Margin: Try the buffet

by bonio Updated Apr 18, 2009

Enticed in by a "all you can eat" offer. Good choice on the buffet menu and unusually your selections are delivered to the table. So, soup followed by appetisers then main course, quality of food excellent, quantity too.
A memorable visit, friendly, comfortable and tasty food, hope to revisit next time we're in Derby.

One of the JD Wetherspoon chain of pubs found all over the UK, this one probably the best I've visited for choice and quality of the beers on offer. around 15 to choose from kept us interested for the evening.
Food is reasonable too, typical JDW menu, all nicely cooked, tasty and ample portions and at a very good price.
