    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Although Derbyshire doesn't have high mountains, Its hills, Peaks and Dales Should be treated with respect. The weather can be quite unpredictable, and can change VERY quickly.

One of my last walks was last year in Youlgreave where 10 minutes after sitting eating our packed lunches in sunshine, we were crossing fields in a horizontal snow shower. This didn't cause too many problems as we were on relatively low ground, and had the appropiate gear. I've been in this situation a few times, once up Kinder Scout at Easter, and near Edale, When the weather has changed VERY quickly to Snow or heavy Mist with poor visibility.

A couple of years ago, I was Walking at Alport Castles at the end of March, and was able to eat my lunch in a t- shirt, and got sun burn!

So, come prepared for all weathers, and take the same precautions as you would on any mountain walk.
Even for an 'easy' walk, wear supportive footwear, and carry wet weather gear etc.

    Start of snow 'storm' Youlgreave.
