Salcombe is full of people wanting to have fun on the water. This is a safe area to do just that. There are plenty organised sailing/boating experiences for people of all ages. Just shop around for what you want to do.

Lots of little jetties about. Loads of boats up and down the Estuary.

All around Salcombe there are places to relax on a beach and many of them are fairly quiet. Some you can reach by water, others you can drive to somewhere nearby.

There are various places to overlook the Salcombe Estuary. The walk between the main shopping street towards the South and North Sands is about a 15-20 minutes pleasant walk.

To get to East Portlemouth and South Sands for walks and beaches; take the small ferry boat that runs adjacent the Ferry Boat Inn. Its inexpensive and very handy unless you have your own boat and the views up and down the estuary with all the boat activity is quite something. You can easily spend the day on the other side and there is snack-food and drink there.
Alternative boats and ferrys run to North Sands and up to Kingsbridge town. There are boat taxis to get to the private boats anchored off and perhaps to your hotel if it has a pontoon.
