    bread.

There are three lakes at Cockington, they are thought to have been created by the monks living at Torre Abbey to supply them with fresh fish and were restored by the local land owner,Richard Mallock before he died in 1900.

  • Gleneagles Hotel, Torquay - Torquay
    Gleneagles Hotel, Torquay
    by freya_heaven
The experiences of the Monty Python team at the The Gleneagles Hotel is what sparked off the idea for John Cleese to write the brilliant series "Fawlty Towers". Although the series was not actually filmed here. The Pythons were staying here whilst filming Monty Python's Flying Circus television series in the early 1970s.

Amusing incidents are of the awful hotelier Mr Sinclair, ................he threw Eric Idles briefcase outside claiming there could be a bomb inside, throwing a timetable at another customer who dared ask when the next bus was and also complaining about the table manners of Terry Gilliam.

The hotel looks a little worse for wear these days, I doubt the Python team would stay there now. There is talk of the hotel being demolished which would be a shame considering its part in one of Britains funniest comedy's.

  • Cockington Cricket green and pavilion - Torquay
    Cockington Cricket green and
    pavilion
    by freya_heaven
Cockington Country Park is like going back in time, the village is full of pretty thatched cottages, beautiful country walks and horse riding paths. There are 3 lakes surrounded by mature plants, many of them semi tropical, all very well managed.

A huge green where in the summer months cricket is played and they also hold Cockington Fayre. Apart from the Fayre the park area never gets so busy, you can not find a quiet spot to enjoy the sun and relax.

You have to come to Cockington if you are in the area, even in the middle of winter!

    Cockington Church,
    by freya_heaven
Cockington Church is just gorgeous, I have always though what a perfect place to get married, but you need to be prepared to wait as presently there is a 4 year waiting list!

The churches tower dates back to 1236 with the other parts of the church added and renovated over the centuries. Two German bombs landed near the church in 1943, and shattered many of the stained glass windows, some of them 100s of years old.

The church has always been unlocked when ever I have fancied having a look inside, there are services on sundays, have a look at the parish notice board if you are interested.

    Inside Cockington Visitor
    Centre
    by freya_heaven
Cockington Visitor Centre is set in the heart of the village in another picturesque thatched building, a watermill in a former life, with the water wheel still being on the outside wall.

In here you will see documentation and exhibits of the old days of life in the village, obviously very much an agricultural area in days gone by. It is also a great place to collect information for all the local walks, including disabled friendly paths, plus events happening throughout the year such as plays, night time ghost walks & spider hunts to name a few!

Entrance free, open 10:00 to 16:00
