The Signal Box Cafe: Had To Be Done!

by johngayton Written Sep 12, 2012
    Inviting Doorway

Another of the reasons why I never ventured into town in the old days when Steve, from Widecombe in the Moor, would drop me off at the station is that we usually got there just after 8 am - breakfast time!!

So if I had a bit of a wait for my train The Signal Box it was.

Favorite Dish: This is a proper, no-nonsense, friendly, "Greasy Joe" - except for the fact that its not particularly greasy, nor is the owner called Joe. The full-blown English Breakfast does exactly what it says on the label - all the usual culprits: sausage, bacon, black pudding, mushrooms, tomato, beans, fried bread and eggs, washed down with a mug of tea, for about a fiver. Just the job to set you up for the day.

This visit I arrived a bit later and it was brunch, rather than breakfast, but just as good as I remembered it.

    The Steam Packet: Riverside Pub

    by freya_heaven Updated Apr 4, 2011

    Steam Packet, Totnes

The Steam Packet is a traditional old pub, on the riverside at Totnes. A couple of years a go I went a few times & always had a great meal.

It has since changed hands so we tried it out a couple of months ago & were sadly disappointed with both our meals & it has also become quite pricy.

Great place to go to for a drink, but I personally would not eat here again, especially when there are so many other great eateries nearby

Health Food Shop & Take Away: Healthy Eating

    by freya_heaven Updated Jul 25, 2004

    Healthy Shop

This is a tiny health food shop & take away. They well the most wonderful homity pies & carrot cakes, as well as many other freshly cooked & made food. All the fruit & veg is organic. If you are in a hurry or on a budget (or just want healthy food) get your lunch or afternoon cake from here. It is always busy, which is a great recommendation in itself.

No Idea of the name. When I took this photo I looked for one, it really doesnt need one.

    Amalfi: Totnes Italian

    by freya_heaven Written Jul 22, 2004

    Amalfi

I love the decor of this place, VERY Italian. All the tables also have Italian scenes painted on them.

They serve what you you would expect from a typical Italian. Lunch time & evening menu, I have been for both & have to say I feel the evening menu is a little over priced. Definately recommend popping for lunch though

    Willow

The Willow cafe/resraurant has been established a good few years now. It is vegetarian & vegan & serves up some wonderful snacks & meals. Most if not all the food here is also organic. It is not unusual on an evening for there to be live music playing, booking is recommened for summer & weekend evenings

    Cafe India

This restaurant has only been open two months,

Very friendly staff, pleasant music, nicely decorated. It was packed out, & apparently has been since its opening. Which is a recommendation in itself.

Have to admit this is the first Indian I have ever been to & I was very impressed, Looking forward to returning.
