I almost forgot to write a tip about this! It’s right under my nose, and one of the town’s “attractions”, but...

It is one of those icons of English seaside resorts. Compulsory. Many seem to rot and collapse, but this one was restored in the 1970s.

It has a theatre and bar/restaurant on it, as well as a handful of fairground rides - presumably to keep the wee ones out of mischief while mum & dad get tanked up in the bar. There’s a small charge to enter usually, but at 8pm in mid-April the gates were open.

I found it to be a bit of an anachronism - brought the whole seafront downmarket a few notches.

One of the items on the restaurant menu was fish finger sandwiches.

Do the Pier to Pier walk

Start at either Bournemouth or Boscombe Pier and finish at the other. Enjoy the scenic stroll along the promenade and treat yourself to coffee and cake at one of the many cafes, restaurants or hotels at either end.

I liked the atmosphere there! The Bournemouth Pier is a great attraction and fabulous place for locals to walk around on a warm summer evening. It is very nice but quite empty during the year. Only in summer you can't walk around without paying entrance because it's full of boats and tourists.

Bournemouth Pier, as taken from the cliffs, it was a bit of a grey day when these pictures were taken. I think sometime in March, so the beaches were deserted. Nice considering that from June to about September time the beaches are full with people, no car parking spaces, and long long lines at the ice cream stands.

This is the time I avoid Bournemouth like the plague.

The Bournemouth Pier is a huge landmark, a great tourist attraction, and also a fabulous place for locals alike to take a stroll down on a gorgeous bournemouth summer evening.
