I haven't been up in this myself but it does look like a fun thing to do.
I'm not sure whether there's been a bit of controversy recently but there seems to have been a name change in that the "Eye" is now the "Balloon" - maybe the London Eye got jealous?
But anyway, this is a helium-filled balloon which is fixed to the ground by a steel cable and winch system which takes the balloon 500 feet up, giving its riders 360 degree panoramic views over the town, its beaches and the surrounding Dorset countryside.
The balloon operates seasonally, from 9 am until late 7 days a week, from Easter until the end of September. However it is weather-dependent and on stormy days doesn't fly.
All the details are on the website.
The Bournemouth Eye is a harnessed balloon that whisks you up several hundred meters into the Dorset skies, towering above the Bournemouth gardens like a constant reminder of where north is. If you get lost in Bournemouth, head towards the balloon. If you head out to see and are not sure where Bournemouth is back on land, look for the white circle in the sky!
And for an alternative perspective on the beautiful town, pay the rather expensive fee to actually take a vertical ride in the balloon. In 5 years of living in Bournemouth I haven't yet shelled out the 10 pounds or so that it costs yet, but before I leave this is my number one "must-do"! Up up and away!!
If you like heights you'll like this one .Take a ride up in an air balloon to get breath taking views of bournemouth beach and surrounding areas.Great for getting photographs.
It costs around 15 -20 pounds for a family ticket I think.
Can't think of a better description than what gammo_go_lightly has keyed in. Am simply adding the picture.
