Gee Whites Seafood Restaurant: Sea food comes with the smell of sea air.
This great restaurant is situated right on the waters edge overlooking Swanage Bay.The newly refurbished restaurant is soon to have an upper terrace from which you will have amazing sea views.
Very busy on the day that we visited, but this did not affect the service that we received from the friendly staff.Good choice of seafood, with crab, lobster, fresh mussels, tuna, prawns, hake, scallops and oysters on the menu.Don't forget to check the specials board while there.
Large car park within a few minutes walk of the restaurant.
Favorite Dish: Hake, chips and mushy peas which were hot, great taste with no grease and nicely presented. As were the scallops, chips and side salad which my wife had.

Red Lion Inn, High Street: Pub grub - but book a table!
Typical English pub fayre including steaks and burgers but also salads, Ciabatta and wraps, fish, chicken, meat dishes. (Steaks around 12GBP)
Some vegetarian dishes available also.
The inn is a very traditional place to eat or enjoy a drink. The local ales are exceptionally well-kept and never disappoint whereas the blackboards display the most amazing selection of draft or bottled ciders.
Booking is essential at weekend or festivals.
Favorite Dish: Dorset Pork Fillet
Trio of Swanage Fish served with crushed saffron potatoes and basil oil
Tawnys Wine Bar: Something for everyone
Swanage restaurants cope well out of season in this small town but in season its wise to book as places are packed out. We went to Tawnys wine bar & were pleasantly surprised with the friendliness of the staff & the ambience. The food caters for a mixture of tastes. The dish that I picked was on the rich side but exactly what I was looking for.
The wine list is extensive & the menu changes on a daily basis. All vegetables are fresh. Vegetarians are well catered for which can often be a fault of eateries.
Food orders are taken from 1200 to 1400 Monday to Saturday for lunch and for supper from 1830 to 2130.
open evenings only on Sundays, again food orders from 1830 until 2130
Square and Compass, Worth Matravers: Not a restaurant - a lovely PUB!
Old, traditional country pub with stone floors and low ceilings.
There is a selection of outdoor seating and tables consisiting of various stone benches, tables, logs to sit-on, old wooden tables, etc.
This place is a favourite stopping-point for walkers and visitors to the area.
Cash only - no cards.
Favorite Dish: They don't do a selection - it's a Pasty or nothing!
(although there is a choice between meat or vegetable!)
The pasty I had was delicious and was a meal all by itself.

Fish & Chips by the seaside
There are several fish&chips shops along the seaside in Swanage. Go to the one that has the most people sitting outside it.
It's strange how much better fish&chips seem to taste by the seaside!
An absolute must for all UK visitors!
Favorite Dish: Cod&Chips or Haddock&Chips.
