Condor Ferries

by freya_heaven

It is easy to visit the Channel Islands & St Malo in France from Dorset. The ferries leave from Poole and Weymouth, it only takes 2 hours to get to Guernsey 3.5 hours to get to Jersey & an hour longer for St Malo. Presently Condor Ferries have a day return to Jersey & Guernsey for under £20.00. I have not yet done this, but plan to on my next visit to the area.

The Dorset Belle

by LouiseTopp

The Dorset Belle is the ideal way to see the Jurassic coast on a cruise; it’s also a fantastic way of sailing to Swanage, Poole The Isle of Wight or Studland without struggling with your bike onto a train. Most of the boats will take bikes free of charge, there’s usually plenty of space to sit and somewhere to tie your bike. The only drawback is that you will have to get yourself & your biker down the stairs to the boat.Sitting outside can be a bit windy, there’s always a safety announcement telling you where the lifejackets are (under the seat). The Belle does other things like wedding receptions, functions & other parties, there’s usually a bar & toilets on board as well.It costs roughly £5 from Bournemouth to Swanage one way, £10 rtn; the office is situated on the pier. From Swanage it’s £7 from the office on their pier. Please check the site for more information.

Saling into port, somewhere.
Cycling the seafront Hegisbury to Poole

by LouiseTopp

I have just completed a charity cycle ride from Hengisbury Head to Poole, & the Chain Ferry to Studland & onto Swanage itself. It takes 30 mins to cycle from Hengisbury to Bournemouth, & another from there to Poole through Sandbanks. You can stop off @ Bournemouth pier & hop on a the Dorset Bella either to Poole, or Swanage.Cycling is restricted, so 10 mile an hour is the going rate. It's quite a pleasant ride, but do be aware that people will wander across your path. The fine is £50 if caught, so look out for beach authorities in dark green t-shirts; they will pounce on you.

Ferrys

by freya_heaven

We caught the Red Funnel car ferry from Southampton to Cowes on the Isle of Wight, its a 55 minute journey crusing along the Solent. The ship is ok...... not up to the standards of Brittany Ferries, but then you are only on it for a short time.Returns start from £27.00 for a day return to £44.00 for a 5 day return. There is also a faster passenger ferry Red Funnel operates costing £13.00 for a day return. There is other ferry company which take you to & from the Isle of Wight, WightLink http://www.wightlink.co.uk/ which operates between Lymington in Dorset to Yarmouth on the north west coast on the Island.
