Whereas the pier is a pleasant stroll and free to walk on - the rides are overpriced, so if you have a few kids in tow, be prepared to spent ALOT! Most rides are around £2 per go...(so that's 8 quid a go if you have 4 kids with you hmmm)
However, deckchairs are free if you fancy just sitting around and watching the world go by...
Fun Alternatives: Thre is a cheaper funfair on the level, center of town - but it only appears twice a year (Spring & autumn I think).

It's all one trap, the shopping arcades and The Lanes, the pier............don't eat the fish n chips on the main road between the two piers, they are rank :o( Bankers ( Western Rd ) is the best!
Shopping, people are deluded in thinking it's cheaper than London, it ain't! Londoners have told me so.......................
and the pier 2p slot games, the ones where there is two levels of money and time it right the 2p you just dropped into it lands, pushes the other level, pushing others off and then into your pocket, or most of the time down the sides, DOH
Unique Suggestions: In the arcades make sure you people watch the full time gamblers in there, usually the oldies, their pent up expressions on their faces when they put not only 1 2p but 3 in at the same time, the stakes get higher..............oh my god, the excitement AND they hog em too!!!!!!!!!!
Fun Alternatives: Don't gamble, don't eat greasy food and go charity shopping instead!!!

I really did not enjoy my time on the pier, but then again people will say when in Brighton .... The arcade is full of youngsters (some not so young) wasting away their pocket money on arcade games, cheap junky prizes & the sound of clink clink of cash is unbearable.
When you get out of that pit (or you can bypass it) you are greeted by little shops selling the legendary Brighton rock - this is candy which has a text going straight through it & is usually a bit of a jaw breaker, of course you can get other british sweeties & candy floss.
Next there is a funfair element complete with dodgems, a rollercoaster & some other stomach sickening rides.
Unique Suggestions: Get your picture taken on the pier with you hair blowing in all sorts of directions.

BRIGHTON ROCK (AKA Blackpool Rock, Skegness Rock, etc.). What is ROCK? Brighton Rock is a circular stick shaped piece of sugar, pure and simple. These are nuclear engines when ingested by unsuspecting children and Mums and Dads still think this would be a great thing to buy. ‘Gee honey, why are the kids sadistically hyper?’ Yes, sugar that has coloured coatings and stupid things ‘written’ on the end like “Sex Machine”, “I love Grandma” “Bad Boy”and “Lover”. You really can’t read them clearly. Some shops even offer Sugar Free Rock. This stuff is more addictive, cheaper and more whack than cocaine. Parents: Don’t risk it! They grow to hate you when they turn 13 anyway and some later gain access to weapons. This is how it starts.
Fun Alternatives: JUST SAY NO TO ‘ROCK’!

Do not eat in the fish & chips place at the end of the pier. I was actually going to take a picture of it just for this page, but forgot to. The service was awful and unfriendly. The fish & chips lukewarm. The prices higher than the rest of the pier. No seagulls . . .

The beach in Brighton can be a bit crowded, and it is only a stone beach.... no sand at all...
So it can be very dissapointing. I liked it any way, you can sit there with friends at night and it is really cosy!

In the Plaza cafe the food was advertised as 5.99 for two coarses but when you order drinks you don't know what they charge unless you ask we didn't it was 4.00 for a bottle of water and I think it was 5.00 for a small Budweiser.
Unique Suggestions: Make sure you know what they charge then decide if you want it.
Fun Alternatives: Go have a pub lunch the drinks will be the same price as most other pubs.

It's true about all the beggars and charity collectors. It really is impossible to walk more than a few steps without someone asking for money, either for themselves or for charity. I guess it's up to you what you do but after a while I'm afraid you start to turn a blind eye.

Brighton Pier. Although a great attraction, in Summer you can't move for the crowds, and you will need to carry lots of change for the attractions on the pier. It is a great place with lots to do, but try to go on a weekday when it isnt so crowded.
