West street at eleven o'clock onwards or at 2 /3am on fridays and Saturdays can turn into a horrible drunken area as the pubs and clubs close -I've seen quite vicious fights there.I'd like to apologise for my countrymen!
from my time as an English teacher, I know that foreign students sometimes get robbed. Don't carry too much cash around and try not to be alone late at night.
There are a lot of homeless people, which can come as quite a shock at first. 99% of them are fine but the 1% can be intimidating (drunk). Just be a bit careful late at night in some areas, especially at the station.
Mick and I drank in some dogey pub and despite what you may think it was not a hang over that made me so sick.
We are sure they beer was not quite right as the next day was my sickest day ever while traveling .forget weight watchers I lost 5 kilo's in a day.
I only left it here for 10 minutes. Ha! Ha! only kidding Brighton hasn't got a crime problem that I saw but this made me laugh
even a good lock may not help, when you have bad luck and you leave your bike unattended overnight
I have seen many rotten remnants of bikes in streets having been locked for at least ten years
some times the tide has to wait before it can come in .....if the beach is crowded.

When you are cycling along the South downs and 'loose' the right way, be careful with 'wild animals', like sheep, rabbits and - above all: cows!
