  • The BookStack: Books and Coffee

by Mariajoy Updated Dec 4, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

A small book shop in Eastbourne's Arndale Centre. The difference here is that upstairs is a very small mezzanine cafe where patrons can pore over their purchases while sipping a nice cup of coffee or tea (and maybe indulge in a muffin or hot cross bun).

If you get a seat by the glass panel you can watch the transactions below - it's fascinating to see who buys what.

What to buy: Books, CDs, and maybe postcards for their VT friends :)

What to pay: 1.55 gbp for coffee and a hot cross bun. Price of books vary of course.

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

TJ Hughes offers discounted products from clothing to accessories. Most suitable for people who have lower income. In fact i always come here to buy some of my winter clothing and christmas gift. Busiest time is during the christmas gift hunting.

What to pay: A huge bar of Cadbury only cost you GBP2.
Denim Jeans at GBP5 (Worth buying)

  • Shades: shades in eastbourne

by JackieClifford Written Mar 25, 2012

This is not a good comment for this shop. My Special Needs son went into this cafe as he has done several times before as he loves a jacket potatoe for lunch and as he went to pay at the till on his own as he wanted to be independent, (his carer was keeping a close eye on him) he found he didnt have enough money on him and instead of making as little fuss as possible (and explaining that he needs to make sure he has the right money next time) the manager snatched the tray out of his hand and had a go at him, embarassing him and making him feel stupid. My sons carer came to help and she had a go at him to. When I finished work I went to speak to her and she was extremely rude to me, showing no understanding or compassion what so ever and told me not to bring him there again. I would like everyone to boycott shades and show this manager that she cannot be discriminating against young people with dissabilites

What to buy: NOTHING WHAT SO EVER

What to buy: Meads Books always has a good selection of books about Eastbourne and the local area.
