Princes Theatre...: Entertainmant in the Town Hall!

by arturowan Written Aug 26, 2014

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Princes Theatre is the largest venue for public entertainment in the seaside resort of Clacton-0n-Sea, & provides a wide range of shows, from comedians such as Joe Pasquale or Jim Davidson; to Rock'n'Roll originals such as Joe Brown or Bon Jovi, & tribute acts for Buddy Holly or The Beach Boys; to on-tour Russian ballet...
The Town Hall is an attractive building which has served the public since the 1930's, with a box office in the main entrance...
However, the stage location, within the Town Hall, does mean that the venue lacks that intimate 'theatre' atmosphere...
0f course, there is a traditional seasonal pantomine...

West Cliff Theatre: West Cliff Story...

by arturowan Updated Aug 20, 2014

The West Cliff is the only remaining purpose-built theatre in Clacton, having entertained holidaymakers & locals on the same site since 1899
It is now run independtly by the West Cliff Trust, playing host to professional touring shows, as well as local amateur dramatic, operatic, dance, & other performance groups...
The West Cliff is a compact auditorium with only 600 seats, creating an intimate atmosphere, where nobody with a ticket feels left out of the show...
The Stage Door Bar is open prior to, as well as during performances, & can provide pre-booked meals...
Famous names who have appeared on stage over the years, include Phil Collins; Charlie Lansborough; Richard Dignance; Jim Davidson; Des 0'Connor; Rosemary Squires; Ruthie Henshall; as well as stalwarts of the venue; Don McLean, & the evergreen comedian, Roy Hudd...
Something for all tastes then; even the Chuckle Brothers have been on stage!
As well as comedy & dance spectaculars, the West Cliff provides many musical theme & tribute evenings, such as wartime nostalgia; to Motown; & the '50's or '60's; & such greats as Elvis; Cliff Richard & The Shadows; & ABBA
0f course, the West Cliff also provides an annual Christmas pantomine...

Old Lifeboat House: Bonio's good beer guide

by bonio Written Sep 13, 2007

A quiet and friendly pub, just outside the town centre, and the only pub we found a decent pint of real ale. Most pubs in town appeared to favour fizzy yellow drinks if you know what I mean. Anyway a few pints of Shepherd Neame's excellent beers for us here. Worth a visit.
