The Chapel of St Nicholas
St Nicholas is the chapel dates back to 1225. It is definitely off the beaten path. There are no signs directing you to this tiny chapel on the end of Abbey Lane. I am partial to this tiny chapel because we were married there! If you ask a local they can point you in the right direction, and if you ask the viccar of St. Peter's (the main church in Coggeshall), he can arrange a private tour of this chapel.
Take a Hot Air Baloon Ride over Coggeshall!
All throughout the spring and summer, we see gorgeous vibrantly colored Hot Air Balloons going right over our house in Coggeshall! They take off just a few miles from our house, in Kelvedon, and we love seeing them go past! It is one thing I would love to do - take a leisurely balloon ride over this sweet little village I have grown to love so much.
Balloons leave from a lovely Inn in Kelvedon called "Prested Hall."
One of our favorite things to do is to go for a long walk on a Sunday afternoon to Marks Hall. Its a fair trek from our house, but it is a short drive if traveling by car. We like to go there, have a nice cup of tea and a jacket potato in the tea room, browse around in the gift shop, and then walk around the grounds, which are just gorgeous. You won't find many tourists at Marks Hall. It is definitely off the beaten track and even many locals have never taken the time to explore this great spot.
Marks Hall has acres of beautiful gardens and nature preserves. They offer loads of guided and unguided walks. Marks Hall really is a hidden gem in Coggeshall! Their website can give you much more information: http://www.markshall.org.uk
Once a month on the last Saturday of the month there is a Farmer's Market held at Marks Hall.
