Favorite thing:
Frinton-on-Sea, as its name implies, might be a seaside resort, but in my opinion, its best feature is its gardens...
All 3 of the Tendring penninsula resorts - Clacton, Frinton, & Walton, have their gardens, but the truth is, those in neighbouring Walton-on-Naze, are quite missable, with a disparate mixture of palms & conifers, & potted plants in old rowing boats...
Both Clacton & Frinton have interesting & beautiful gardens, & it's difficult to choose between the 2, but if I had to, then I give the award to Frinton...
Frinton's gardens are charmingly understated, & the 1 behind the old parish church is a particular gem (see other review of it on here...)
The open-plan 1 nearby, located within the fork in the road, is recommendable for the drinking fountain (again, see the most informative, other review here...)
In 2010, the rock garden beside the beach huts at The Walings, the golf course end of Frinton, were re-created according to the design that was there in the 1920's...
But, the jewel in the crown, has to be Crescent Garden, along the Esplanade, (located opposite the monument in memory of Frinton's founder, Mister Powell-Cooper, on the greensward...)
Although quite a tiny garden, it has an extraordinary variety of trees, including a pair of yews, which for as long as I can recall, have dominated the site with their resplendant evergreen...
There are many benches in Crescent Garden, which offer a fine view through the entrance in the front hedge, out to sea, as far as the wind turbines on Gunfleet Sands...
Fondest memory:
Sitting on a park bench in Crescent Gardens, early in the morning, or late evening, when the birds are singing - I challenge any1 to do this on a sunny day when the flowers are blooming, & not think, in the words of Louis Armstrong, to the song; 'It's a wonderful World'...
Favorite thing:
Although there is a long beach, a few beach huts, that is all there is along the shoreline, so to relieve one's self you can climb the steps to the state of the art convenience, which was reputed to have cost £25,000. Of course there is a charge via a turnstile, but had to take a picture for you of this important necessity.
Frinton is posh you see !
