To me brought up in and around Southend on Sea, the local airport was always known and will continue to be called Rochford airport. For this reason I have written about the airport under the heading Rochford in this site

From Liverpool Street take a train to Southend Victoria train station, which is the last station on the line. This will bring you to the top of the high street. You will be able to see Southend Victoria Odeon from the exit. Head for that and it will bring you to the High Street. Alternatively take the escaloators up to Victoria Plaza shopping centre and you can enter the High Street that way.
Southend has two main line stations running into it from London. You can either catch a train from Liverpool Street - Southend Victoria, which is at the top of the High Street. Alternatively you can catch a train from Fenchurch Street which hugs the coast stopping at Benfleet, Leigh, Chalkwell, Westcliff, and Southend Central which is in the middle of the High Street towards the seafront. The train service terminates at Shoebury.
London Southend Airport is on the brink of a major re-development to turn it into a new, easy to use low cost airport.
Southend already handles European passenger and cargo services and is set to increase its flights and extend its range of destinations for both business and leisure passengers.
The £25m development will deliver the newest, fastest. low cost airport in the Eastern Region.
There are several good taxi firms in Southend and there is generally not a day time shortage. Here are some useful numbers if there is not one waiting outside the train station.

It maybe the case that Route 66 that was immortalised in the song, but Billy Bragg wrote an excellent parody of it to the same tune.
Although the A13 is the most obvious route to Southend from London, you will actually find the A127 to be a bit more direct.
Anyway, here in full are the lyrics ...
A13 Trunk Road To The Sea
If you ever have to go to Shoeburyness
Take the A road, the okay road that's the best
Go motorin' on the A13
If you're looking for a thrill that's new
Take in Fords, Dartford Tunnel and the river too.
Go motorin' on the A13
It starts down in Wapping
There ain't no stopping
By-pass Barking and straight through Dagenham
Down to Grays Thurrock
And rather near Basildon
Pitsea, Thundersley, Hadleigh, Leigh-On-Sea,
Chalkwell, Prittlewell
Southend's the end
If you ever have to go to Shoeburyness
Take the A road, the okay road that's the best
Go motorin' on the A13
