    The Jazz Cafe is a fairly small live music venue in North London. Many big name jazz and acid jazz bands play here and it is always a great night. It is pretty much standing room only in front of the stage, but there is also a restaurant on the mezzanine level, where you can sit and watch the band from your table.

    No dress code, though it can be cold in there.

    One night we headed to Notting Hill for a fancy dinner. Before our meal we wanted to relax over a drink or two, so headed to the Lonsdale. The Lonsdale is a stylish bar with that 'wow factor' when you first walk in. At the front there is a cocktail bar and to the rear is a restaurant. The restaurant area is very cool looking, with pink glowing lights shining around the walls. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the bar was thankfully not too smoky when we visited. I had a classic Vodka Martini and Alex got a little adventurous with an Elderflower Martini. Mine was not the best martini I had ever had, but it did the job. Alex's was pretty tasty though and I may have helped him drink it. If you are looking for somewhere a little funky to meet friends or to take that special someone, you could do a lot worse than the Lonsdale.

    All you Abba fans out there - if you haven't seen it yet, get you butt down to the Prince of Wales Theatre and see the fabulous Mamma Mia! It is a feel good show with plenty of singing and dancing and all your old favourite Abba songs. It is impossible not to sing along. Even if you are not a huge fan you can't help but enjoy the show. Alex took me along for my birthday one year and even he enjoyed it.

    If you are around Piccadilly and fancy a drink after work or shopping then make your way to Happy Hour at On Anon. It is a large bar with 8 different themed areas. They have a good happy hour between 5pm and 7.30pm each night, with most drinks and bar food half price. Very popular with the afterwork crowd. Make sure you arrange exactly where you are meeting friends else you will never find each other!!

    I'm not trendy and they still let me in...

    If you like a comfortable venue to watch jazz then this is the place for you. This is basically a basement Pizza Express restaurant which features jazz artists. It is an intimate venue and you really feel a part of the show. We went to see American singer Kurt Elling and were lucky to have a table right in front of him - we were so close I could smell his aftershave!

    Rocket Riverside is a trendy bar in the base of the newly restructured Putney Wharf, next to Putney Bridge. The bar is newly fitted hence looks classy and service was friendly. It is very popular for afterwork drinks and gets pretty full later in the evening

    The Dickens Inn is located at St Katherine's Dock. It is the oldest building there, but was not actually built there. The Inn is a three story timber building and is a popular place for a drink or a meal. Good in summer as there are lots of outdoor tables with waterviews. We stopped by one sunny evening for a lager and a gossip.

    Mainly after-work crowd, so business or smart casual is fine

    The Langley is a retro-styled basement bar and restaurant located near Covent Garden. Get there early to take advantage of happy hour and two for one cocktails (5-7pm every day). We had a delicious dinner there, washed down with a few drinks. It is a great atmosphere for a celebration, the music is groovy and the staff are cute!

    If you are into Frank, Dean & Sammy, don't miss this fantastic West End show. The Rat Pack - live from Las Vegas is a re-enactment of a performance at the Sands Hotel in Vegas, back in their hayday. The show includes many of the trio's hits and some of their comedic banter. There are the 3 impersonators plus a 15 piece bigband and backup singers/dancers.     Tiger Tiger is a multi-leveled bar in the heart of Piccadilly. It is very popular for afterwork drinks, as it has fantastic happy hour deals until 7pm each week night - most drinks and bar food are half price! This makes for a very cheap meal - you can get a big burger or huge platter of food to share for only a few pounds, along with 2 for 1 drinks.
