 | London Packing Lists | Tips 61 - 70 of 288 | | Popular Packing Lists | Miscellaneous Packing Lists Tips | All Tips (288) I would recommend a very detailed map--I love the laminated Insight London map. Also get a Tube map at any station--they are free.
Obviously--an umbrella. You just never know when you're going to need it. So even if it's sunny when you get up, bring it with you--things change fast!
Bring a washcloth if you feel it's a necessity! Most mid-level London hotels don't supply them automatically.
A mini tripod if you want to make better night shots of Parliament (a stunning sight!).
I brought a compass so that I could get my bearings when coming up out of a Tube station. Leave a Comment

Light haversack to carry just the bare neccessities, like camera, umbrella, money etc. You might walk a lot so don't carry something too heavy that will make you feel uncomfy. Hold on to your bags wherever you go as they might get pinched, as in every other big city...
Make sure you take an anorak/jacket because it tends to shower every now and again without warning. I would recommend you wear comfortable boots, not sandals (unless it's really hot in the summer), to keep out the rain and cold.
Nothing in particular
If you ever run out of photo equipment, don't worry, you find shops all over the place selling films, batteries, tapes and so on...
None. This is a city!
Umbrella! Just in case... Leave a Comment

Make sure that any bag, or other luggage, that you have with you, is safely secured about you. It's best to carry money and valuables in a money belt. Do not leave handbags open and don't carry anything worth having in your pockets, as there are plenty of people only too willing to deprive you of them. Also, when you drive through London, always keep your car doors locked, as you never know if someone is going to chance it and open the door to steal your handbag. I always lock our car door through London.
Very comfortable shoes is a must in London and always be prepared for showers of rain, so carry a light waterproof jacket with you, even on warm days.
Make sure that any medications that you will need on a trip into London is safe and secure about you. Please make sure that you have tissues with you too, too often there are times when you can go into a public toilet and have to drip dry because of the lack of toilet paper hehehe.
Camera and spare rolls of film; maybe even a Video camera if you have one. Keep them out of sight if you can, but don't risk your life if someone is prepared to threaten you for your belongings. cameras are replaceable, your life is not.
I can't really see that you could ever camp in the city of London? Unless you're one of those saddos who sleeps outside of a shop at night waiting for the sales to open, so that you can grab a bargain. A newspaper would be a good idea if you are considering sleeping on the park benches at any time I suppose?

My husband found his backpack was perfect to carry our umbrellas, souveniers and hats.
Raincoat and umbrella. Walking shoes are good because the cobblestone is very difficult to negotiate in heels, plus heels are not too cushy, so you do feel every single cobblestone you step on.
We had two digital cameras, both with video capabilities, one that was so small it was wallet size, depending on where we were going, either the larger or smaller camera was appropriate. We brought a tripod stand for Stonehenge and it worked great. Despite the heavy wind, which knocked it and our camera over, the camera works fine (after bouncing a few times on the path) and has one nick on it.
If you go during September, it is much cooler than the east coast of the U.S. We wore long sleeve shirts and jeans and warm jackets, as well as gloves sometimes.
For women who carry purses, get one you can put around your neck, so the strap crosses entirely in front of you and keep your purse in front of you. I had several tugs on mine, but because of the way I wore it, no one ever got it. It was small and had enough space for credit cards, eye drops, money, id and lipstick. I left my big purse that holds everything but the sink back home and used this for my entire trip. Leave a Comment
